Beat-it, a Cape Town based team building drumming group, has developed a process by which a group of people can drum, exploring the joy of coming together as a team and also interacting on a feeling level, using the medium of djembe drumming. The process of drumming is organic in that it grows according to that particular groups ability and needs. It will highlight the importance of listening and response while drumming. The effects and reflection of this drum experience can then be directly translated into the work situation.
The process we employ is, first and foremost drumming i.e. fun. This can be used as a basis for addressing more serious issues such as conflict management.
We gather outside the official frame of the company.
We explore listening.
We develop a language to communicate.
We will learn to mirror each other. We drum!!.
We will show the importance of the off beat
( tension ), while being aware of the overall harmony that this creates.
We highlight support for each other, watching, listening and holding.
We explore individuals supporting a group / groups supporting the individual.
In early times it was the drum, today it's the telephone. Phone Beat-it, the Cape Town drum team building group.
